Berry Park

The Yard

In North Tulsa, the yard plays a key role in the social and physical landscape of the community; serving as a critical mediator between the home and the social life of the neighborhood. Studio Zewde has been commissioned by the City of Tulsa and the George Kaiser Family Foundation to design the next iteration of Berry Park, a 13 acre public space in a residential neighborhood of North Tulsa. The landscape design celebrates the spatial tradition of the yard with two large pavilions that bracket a wide, generous flexible central lawn. By bringing the extant dynamics of the neighborhood into the communal public space of Berry Park, the landscape design is authored by the landscape rituals of the surrounding community.
