Homewood Park

A civic and cultural nexus

Throughout much of the 20th century, the Homewood neighborhood thrived as a vibrant center for Black businesses, theatre, art, and music in Pittsburgh. Today, Homewood’s Stargell Field draws from that legacy by playing host to a range of intergenerational activity and relationship-building that are at the core of its community, powered by Homewood Community Sports, a neighborhood organization over 70 years old.

The Studio Zewde team is currently working with the City of Pittsburgh and Homewood Community Sports to design the next evolution of the 5-acre park that expands the park’s offerings, fortifies the sports field, strengthens its relationship to the adjacent community, and bolsters the park’s presence as the civic and cultural nexus of the historically significant Homewood community.
