Clinton Avenue Residence

Located in the heart of Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, the clients of this project reached out to Studio Zewde with the goal of designing multiple outdoor spaces for their single-family townhouse. The design objective was to create a lush oasis in the heart of the city, while also paying homage to the clients Turkish and Lebanese backgrounds.

The project scope consists of a front garden, backyard and lower patio, as well as rooftop terrace with varying programs for each space. The front garden is designed to feel true to the Brooklyn neighborhood, taking cues from the lush native plant palette, such as ferns, hostas, and anemone. For the backyard, there was a need for the landscape to accommodate their growing family, simultaneously designating a space for lounging and play. From this, the concept of "cascading rugs" was born, with each "rug" providing space for the different uses.

Inspired by Mediterranean influences through warm rustic paving and planting, the roof terrace design consists of two separate areas delineated by a change of paving and planter placement. One "room" is programmed for lounging; the other as a meditation and yoga space.
